Knut Hamsun’s writing has earned an important place in literary and cultural history.  Hamsun is one of three Norwegian authors to receive the Nobel prize in literature, and his writing has had a strong influence on both Norwegian and international literature.

On behalf of the Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs, the National Library of Norway is responsible for the official commemoration of this anniversary. The anniversary celebration is designed to ensure that Hamsun’s literary legacy is preserved, made visible and used actively.  This will be accomplished by means of national and international events.

In connection with the issue of the coin, Norges Bank will cooperate with the National Library and the project forum which has been established to commemorate the anniversary. 

The date of issue will be announced at a later time.
